Do you ever find yourself lacking motivation and distracted by almost anything? Don’t worry, we’ve all been there… Today I am excited to share my 10 favourite life motivation hacks with you! These little tips and tricks will help kick start you on those days when you just don’t feel like being productive.
1.Create the ideal study space
Having an inspirational and motivational working environment can have a significant impact on your work ethic. If the area you are studying in is cluttered, messy and full of distractions, it is easier for you to drift your focus away from the task at hand. To avoid this, make sure your desk is tidy and put away any items you don’t need. On top of this, I love having inspirational quotes, a vision or goal board and happy pictures for that little bit of extra motivation!
2.Read organization books
It might take us some time to figure out the perfect unique study pattern that works best for ourselves. I love to read organization books, as they can provide us with ideas that we may not have considered previously. My favourite ones are Work Smarter: Live Better, by Cyril Peupion and The Life Plan, by Shannah Kennedy.
3.Batch your to-dos
I have previously mentioned this in my blog posts but I’m going to repeat it because I think it’s such an important point! Batching your to-dos is a great way to make sure that you do not hop from one task to another, which can result in half finishing multiple tasks. Batch your tasks into groups, this way once you complete them you will feel more accomplished which will help your motivation for the rest of the day!
4.Create study appointments
It’s important to allocate time for your study. Block out your study sessions in your diary and manage them into smaller study appointments. In between these sessions, aim to have breaks and allow yourself some time to have a study snack, get some fresh air or exercise.
5.Play calm music
I absolutely love listening to background music. It can be extremely calming, especially if you choose the artists that inspire you! Who else is a Troye Sivan or Jason Mraz fan?!
Goal setting is a fantastic way to remind yourself of what you are working towards. Sometimes, we may get in a stage of our study where the activity at hand seems ‘boring’ or ‘pointless’. By setting goals, whether small or large, we can remind ourselves that every small bit of work we do can contribute to these goals!
7.Study in a group
Sometimes we struggle to be our own motivation. A great way to avoid this is to surround yourself with fellow study buddies. Study groups are a great way for people to share unique ideas and sometimes work ethic can be contagious and you can all feed off each other’s productivity. What’s more, you can all factor in a fun activity to do together as a reward for when you’ve completed your work!
8.Use positive self-talk
Avoid a negative self-fulfilling prophecy! If you continuously say ‘this is too hard’ or ‘I can’t do this’, chances are that you will reduce you ability to do so. Instead, be confident and speak positively. This can be in your head or out loud. Sometimes we need to remind ourselves what we are capable of and not drop from this expectation.
Exercise is crucial! Regardless of how vigorous, whatever works for you! I like to go to Yoga or a walk in the fresh air to relax beforehand or after a big session sitting at my desk.
10.Start with a fun task
Boost your confidence by beginning the session on a good note! We won’t always love every single task we have to complete so it’s important to begin with activities that we enjoy. This will help build a positive foundation for the rest of our studies that we need to complete.
If we consider all of these tips, they can add up to make a huge difference to the way we carry out our days and contribute to the importance of developing a positive mindset towards your study! If you do what you love, and love what you do, you are capable of achieving your goals!
